Make Art That Sells Bootcamp

Here is my latest assignment for MATS Bootcamp: a tarot card of the Hierophant. I wasn’t really into this assignment at first but after some research, I found different subjects to use. I was torn between Odin and Dumbledore. I still may do a Dumbledore in a Harry Potter deck in the future…

This is Not a Toy

This-is-not-a-toy

This is Not a Toy is an exhibition of contemporary art and collectible design, guest curated by Pharrell Williams. It was held at the Design Exchange in Toronto from February 7 – May 19, 2014. I finally got the chance to see the exhibit on its last weekend.

My favourite items were, of course, the Gorillaz characters designed by Jamie Hewlett for Kidrobot. I’ve always had my eye on them since peeping them in the display case at Silver Snail when they were on Queen St. and I often regret not buying them.

Also on display were KAWS, Takashi Murakami, Huck Gee (it’s too bad I accidentally erased my video. Argh!), Yoshimoto Nara and many others.

Yes, they make look like toys, but they are way too precious to play with. I would house mine in glass cases away from prying fingers, that’s for sure!

I took a couple photos and posted them on Instagram here.

40 days of dating

What do you get when you take two uber-talented designers and an experiment in dating: this project! Jessica Walsh (of Sagmeister & Walsh) and Timothy Goodman have been friends for four years. Being single at the same time, they came up with the idea of documenting 40 Days of Dating.

Their site is not only beautifully designed (of course), but the relationship and progression from friends to lovers as told through difference perspectives makes it such a great read! They are complete opposites in terms of how they handle their relationships; Tim is a commitment-phobe and Jessica is a hopeless romantic. Put these two together and what you get is a roller-coaster of a ride. I am hooked and can’t wait to see the outcome.

UPDATE: Ugh!
