The Sketchbook Project

Sketchbook Project 2015My fourth sketchbook! Sadly, I found out that 2015 is the last time that the Sketchbook Project will be going on tour but I’m glad that I was able to finish my book and that it will be included. After the tour, it will have a home at the Brooklyn Art Library. I will definitely have to visit the next time I’m in New York.

Once again this year, I’ve decided to participate in The Sketchbook Project. I think it’s a great way to get myself to keep drawing. This year (my third! year), I was inspired by some vintage magazines from the ’40s and ’50s given to me from my mother. I’ve been drawing portraits from these magazines as practice. Obviously not all of them turn out to be masterpieces but you learn from your mistakes, right?!

The Sketchbook Project – Jan 22

Yay! Here it is – the last (first) page. After four months, I’ve finally completed my sketchbook.

I’m really glad I participated in the Sketchbook Project. I knew the In Ten Minutes theme was going to be challenging and while not all of my illustrations came out exactly as I had hoped, I’m pretty happy with the end result.

At times, ten minutes seemed like an eternity but for the most part, it went by sooo fast. Too fast! I usually like to capture the details in my illustrations due to my OCD nature. You really don’t have time for that in ten minutes. It’s refreshing but trust me, it’s killing me not to have the laces in the McQueen shoes showing (aaah!).

I only have seven more days before I have to send my baby back to Brooklyn. And before that, I have to figure out what to do for the cover… maybe some pastels. Hmmm…

Sketchbook Project – Jan 12

I haven’t blogged in a while… I know.

Here’s a 10 minute sketch that I’m behind in posting for the Sketchbook Project from the Nanette Lepore Pre-Fall 2012 collection, pencil and watercolour.

I wish I could have captured the brilliant colours and playful attitude better but I diluted my colours with too much water and ran out of time. So instead, I’m posting a few of my fave looks from the collection.
